How to send a copy of your ID safely
A letting agency, an online shop or a new job asks you for a photo of your ID card or passport. If that image ends up in the wrong hands, someone could use it to impersonate you. A crossed watermark saying who it is for and the date makes the copy useful only for that purpose. JapalTools adds it in your own browser, without uploading the document.
-
Ask whether they really need a copy
Sometimes showing the document or giving just the number is enough. If they want the image, send only the sides they need and never through a channel you do not know.
-
Add the watermark step by step
- Open the anti-fraud ID watermark and choose the photo or PDF of your document.
- Write who it is for and why, for example “Only for rental at Example Agency”. The date is added automatically.
- Adjust the size, opacity and wavy lines until the mark crosses the data but the document is still readable.
- Download the result as JPG, PNG or PDF and send that copy, not the original.
-
Why the mark is “burnt” into the image
The result is a new image: the mark is not a separate layer that a PDF editor could delete. Even so, nobody can guarantee an image will never be tampered with, so send only what is needed and keep a record of who you sent it to.
Other ways to protect your data
- Cover what is not needed: with Redact PDF you can truly hide the document number, signature or photo.
- Both sides in one file: follow the guide to put both sides of your ID in one PDF and then add the mark.
- If you get an odd request: be wary of anyone asking for your ID by message without a clear reason or in a hurry, and check the company exists.
Your document stays private
- No upload: the mark is added in your browser; the photo of your ID never leaves your device.
- No sign-up: no account or email needed.
- Free: as many copies as you need, each with its own recipient.
Your document never leaves your device: JapalTools processes it in your own browser and never uploads it to any server, which matters when it contains personal or tax data.
