Frequently asked questions
The original pixels of each area are replaced in the new image, so they cannot be recovered from the file. Even so, a light blur or small blocks may let someone guess short text such as numbers or license plates: for sensitive data use coarse pixelation or solid color, which leaves no information at all.
Metadata is not kept: the image is redrawn and saved without EXIF, so it no longer carries the GPS location or camera details. You can keep the original format (JPG, PNG or WebP) or choose another; GIF, BMP and AVIF are saved as PNG and animated GIFs become a still image.
