Bulk PDF signing: a whole folder with a signature image or digital certificate
Choose a PDF or a folder, customise the signature and sign them all at once. With a digital certificate (.p12/.pfx) the signature is cryptographic and can carry a timestamp. Your documents never leave your computer.
1. Signature type
A signature image is not an advanced or qualified electronic signature (eIDAS regulation). A certificate signature guarantees document integrity and the holder’s identity; whether it is qualified depends on your certificate and who issued it.
You cannot sign with a card (national ID, cryptographic cards or tokens): this tool only signs with certificates installed on your computer, which you load as a .p12 or .pfx file.
A timestamp from an external authority proves when the document was signed. Only the signature fingerprint (32 bytes) is sent, never the document.
With certification, Acrobat warns if anyone changes the PDF after it was signed.
Is your certificate installed on your system or on a card (DNIe)?
A web page cannot see the certificates installed on your system, read smart cards, or even tell whether a card reader is connected. That is why the certificate is loaded here as a file (.p12 or .pfx).
Windows: open “Manage user certificates” (certmgr.msc), select your certificate and choose Action › All tasks › Export… ticking “Export the private key” to get a .pfx.
macOS: open “Keychain Access”, select your certificate and choose File › Export Items… in .p12 format.
Firefox: Settings › Privacy & Security › View Certificates › Your Certificates › Backup… (creates a .p12).
In your country: which certificate is used and how to get the file
Who issues them: certificates come from trust service providers, for example DigiCert, GlobalSign or Sectigo, or from a national scheme in your country (your tax office, bank or professional body often tell you which one they accept).
In what form: software certificates are .pfx/.p12 files you can export. Hardware tokens and smart cards keep the key inside the chip and cannot be exported.
National ID and other smart cards: this tool cannot sign with a card, because the private key never leaves the chip and a website cannot use it. It only signs with certificates installed on your computer, exported to a .p12 or .pfx file. To sign with a card you need an application installed on your computer, such as AutoFirma.
Not sure where your certificate is or how to get it into a file? Where your digital certificates are and how to export them to .pfx.
2. Documents
Drop your PDFs or a folder here
You can also choose them with the buttons. They are read in your browser.
If your browser asks “Do you want to upload…?” when you choose a folder, that is its standard wording: the files are not uploaded to any server, they are only read in your browser.

Looking for signature fields…
3. Signature
Choose an image, type a name or add details to see here how the signature will look.
Drag the image inside the preview to move it around the signature.
This is an example: the date, the file name and the variables are replaced in each document.
Choose an image (pen, seal…) or add your own (PNG or JPG, ideally with a transparent background).
Variables: [file] file name, [date] date, [time] time, [n] document number and [total] how many there are.
4. Placement
Signature fields detected
Do you want to sign in those fields?
A digital signature takes up a single field; the others stay free for other people.
Documents that do not have that field are signed at the free position below.
Drag the signature to place it and pull the corner to resize it. Use the arrows to move between documents.
5. Output
[name] is the original name without “.pdf”. The original is never overwritten: signed files are saved separately.
Saving into a folder only works in Chrome, Edge and other Chromium-based browsers.
They are stored only in this browser and never sent anywhere. If you untick it, they are deleted. The certificate and its password are never stored.
There is more than 500 MB of PDFs: save straight into a folder so the browser does not run out of memory.

How to sign many PDFs at once
1. Choose the signature type
A visible signature (it only stamps your image and details) or a digital signature with your .p12/.pfx certificate and an optional timestamp. You will see different options depending on the type.
2. Add your PDFs
Drag the PDFs or a whole folder. They are read in your browser and not uploaded to any server.
3. Customise, place and sign
Choose your signature image or type your name, add date, reason and notes, place it by dragging it on the preview, and sign. Download a ZIP or save into a folder, with a report.
Why use JapalTools bulk signing
Your documents are not uploaded
Everything happens in your browser. Only if you turn on the timestamp is the signature fingerprint (32 bytes) sent to the chosen service.
Verifiable digital signature
CMS signature with your certificate: Adobe Acrobat and other readers detect any later change to the document.
From one to hundreds of documents
Process a folder with its subfolders and get a CSV report with the SHA-256 fingerprint of each result.
Nothing to install, no sign-up
Free, no accounts and no watermarks, on any computer with a modern browser.
Frequently asked questions
It depends on the type. An image or a visible stamp is a simple electronic signature. With a digital certificate the signature lets you check that the document did not change; for it to be “qualified” (equivalent to a handwritten one in the EU) the certificate must be qualified and the key must be on a qualified device, such as the DNIe chip, which a web page cannot use. Ask whoever requests the signature which level they need.
A web page cannot access cards or the system certificate store. If your certificate is installed, export it to .pfx or .p12 (the tool explains how). The DNIe private key cannot be exported: for it, use an application installed on your computer, such as AutoFirma.
It is proof, issued by an external authority, that the signature existed at a specific date and time. The tool sends only the signature fingerprint (32 bytes) to the authority you choose, through a JapalTools relay that stores nothing.
They are skipped and listed in the report: rewriting them would invalidate their previous signatures.
No. The certificate is read in your browser’s memory for the session and disappears when you close or reload the page; it is not sent anywhere either. Signature images and settings are stored only if you tick “Remember…”, and only in your browser.
There is no fixed limit: it depends on your computer’s memory. For large batches, save straight into a folder (Chrome or Edge) instead of downloading a ZIP.
No. The document is processed in your own browser and is not sent to JapalTools or anyone else. When you close the page, no copy remains outside your device.
