How to run a random draw

The draw runs in your browser with the system's cryptographic random number generator, the same one used to create passwords and keys. Every participant has exactly the same chance (or the one their entries give them).

  1. Enter the participants in the table (name and email in separate fields), paste a list or load a TXT, CSV or Excel file.

  2. Choose what to draw: winners and reserves, prizes, teams, an order, Secret Santa or numbers.

  3. Press Run the draw, download the certificate and send the emails with the result.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The numbers come from crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographic generator, and values that would favour someone are discarded (rejection sampling). Ordering and picking use the Fisher-Yates shuffle, in which every combination is equally likely.

Yes. With the «Email the result» button the emails go out straight away from support@japaltools.com (through the Resend email service), with the JapalTools design and no attachments: each person with an email in the list receives their result, the organiser receives the full result and replies go to them. The certificate is downloaded separately. The site doesn't open your email app.

It provides transparency: it records the date, the number of participants, the SHA-256 fingerprint of the list, how the draw was made and the result. It is not a notarial record, has no legal validity and cannot prove that the draw wasn't repeated. For contests with legal requirements, check the rules in your country.

Tick “Count entries” and type each person’s number of tickets in the “Entries” column (in a pasted list, the third part of the line: Ana;ana@example.com;3). Someone with 3 has three times the chance, but each person can only win once.

A TXT file with one name per line, a CSV or an Excel file (.xlsx). In CSV and Excel you can choose which column holds the name, the email and the entries. Up to 20,000 participants are supported.

Choose “Secret Santa”, enter the participants with their email and press “Run the draw”. Each person gives to someone else and nobody gets themselves. You can block specific pairs in “Can’t give to” and stop two people giving to each other. The pairs are never shown, not even to you: each person gets an email with the name of who they give to. Only for people without an email can you see who they give to, so you can tell them.
