How to convert a PDF to Word for free with no sign-up

If you need to reuse the text of a PDF, the easiest way is to turn it into Word. JapalTools converts it in your browser and gives you a .docx file you can open with Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs, without uploading the document to any server.

  1. Check whether your PDF has text

The conversion reads the text stored in the PDF. If you can select and copy words when you open it, it will convert better. If it is a scan or a photo, the tool recognises the text with OCR in your browser; check the result, because OCR can get some letters wrong. If you only need a searchable PDF, use OCR PDF.

  2. Convert the PDF to Word step by step

    1. Open PDF to Word and select or drag in the file.
    2. Wait a few seconds: the tool detects headings by font size and rebuilds paragraphs, lists and tables.
    3. Download the .docx file.
    4. Open it with Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs and edit it like any document. Each PDF page ends with a page break.
  3. What it keeps and what it doesn't

It keeps the text in order, headings, lists, tables, images and text formatting (bold, italics, size and colour). It is not an exact copy of the layout: multi-column text ends up in a single column, the typeface is similar to the original, drawings made of lines are not copied and text boxes do not keep their position. If you only want to change a detail without losing the look of the document, it's better to edit the PDF directly.

Other conversions that may help

  • To Excel: for data tables, PDF to Excel splits the text into rows and columns.
  • To text: PDF to Markdown extracts the text with its headings and lists.
  • The other way round: Word to PDF converts a .docx into a PDF.

Your document stays private

  • No upload: the conversion happens in your browser.
  • No sign-up: no account or email needed.
  • No watermarks in the Word document.

Your document never leaves your device: JapalTools processes it in your own browser and never uploads it to any server, which matters when it contains personal or tax data.
