How to compress a photo to 50 KB
Job portals, enrolment systems and online applications often limit the photo or signature to 50 KB. Here is how to get it below that size by choosing the exact limit, for free and without uploading it to any server.
-
Open Compress image with 50 KB already set
Open Compress image to 50 KB: the tool opens in By target size mode with 50 KB already typed. To leave a margin, you can type 48.
-
Select the photo
Choose the photo or drag it in. You will see the size before and after and a preview of the result before downloading anything.
-
Check it looks right and download it
Press Compress images. The best quality that fits in 50 KB is found; if that isn’t enough, the dimensions are reduced and you are told. Look at the preview to check that the face or signature is clear and press Download.
If the form asks for specific dimensions
- Crop first with Crop image if they ask for an aspect ratio: the fewer spare pixels, the more quality fits in 50 KB.
- Resize with Resize image if they ask for exact pixels, then compress.
- Passport photo: Passport photo frames the face at the document size and also lets you choose the maximum JPG size.
Good to know
- JPG is the lightest format for photos: if yours is a PNG, choose JPG under “Output format”.
- Leave a little margin: some websites count 1 KB as 1000 bytes and others as 1024, so 48 KB fits both.
- A phone photo of several MB shrinks without trouble, but it will end up with fewer pixels: that’s normal for it to fit in 50 KB.
Your document never leaves your device: JapalTools processes it in your own browser and never uploads it to any server, which matters when it contains personal or tax data.
